"I can do this for myself" Feedback + Lucy Liang Podcast

Published 5 months ago • 2 min read

Over the last week I've been touched by the interest and feedback on my process map on how to develop your voice, build a following, and STAND OUT as a thought leader and game-changer in your field.

Here's a visual recap of the map (click here to view it larger):

Sophie highlighted how we are constantly cycling through the stages of not knowing how to do do something and being able to do it for ourselves.

It's so true. As we start mastering something, we become aware of what we don't know and develop our understanding and skills accordingly.

Simone suggested saying 'develop your voice' versus 'find your voice', after recently reading Josh Spector's article How To Become A Better Writer.

I've edited the name of the process map, and added the following quote to it from Josh:

...the sooner you stop trying to find your voice, the better.
Because you don’t find your voice, you develop it.
The dictionary defines the word “find” as to “discover or perceive by chance or unexpectedly.”
To find something is essentially to hope to get lucky.
It’s something that happens to you — not something you control.
It’s not something to bank the future of your writing on.
On the other hand, consider the word “develop.”
It’s defined as to “grow or cause to grow and become more mature, advanced or elaborate.”
To develop something is to make something happen.
It puts you in control of your fate and can take you from hoping to find your voice to actually doing so.

Thank you Sophie, Simone, and all of you who've shared your initial impressions, reflections, and ideas with me. They're inspiring, useful and encouraging.

Watch this space for my breakdown on the next phase: 'I can help people 1:1 do it'.

Curious about MySnapshot and how it can accelerate your learners’ results and measure your program's ROI?

Want a sounding board for developing your program's framework?

I love working with smart professionals and businesses to create:

  • A clear and visual framework for your program, to help your learners understand what you teach and take action more quickly.
  • A program that consistently and confidently delivers the learning outcomes it promises.
  • A self-assessment that measures your learners' progress and the impact of your program.

Just reply to this email and tell me a bit about you and your program or community, and what you'd like to work on together and I'll get you all the details.

A postcard from Barcelona today, where I've been the last few days to celebrate my birthday. The trip has been a great reminder for me on the power of rest, taking time out, and mixing up my environments. I can never get enough aeroplane views! Not only can it be fun to take time out, it nurtures our ability to 'incubate', the second stage of the four-stage process of creativity. To incubate is to not think consciously about a problem or topic. To let our brain have “downtime” and space to...
