To taking time out + nurturing light bulb moments

Published 2 months ago • 1 min read

A postcard from Barcelona today, where I've been the last few days to celebrate my birthday.

The trip has been a great reminder for me on the power of rest, taking time out, and mixing up my environments.

I can never get enough aeroplane views!

Not only can it be fun to take time out, it nurtures our ability to 'incubate', the second stage of the four-stage process of creativity.

To incubate is to not think consciously about a problem or topic.

To let our brain have “downtime” and space to mull over all the information, thoughts, and emotions we’ve been taking in.

This nurtures the space for stage three of the creative process, 'illuminate', when our brain makes new connections.

We experience them as "aha" moments, as we get a flash of clarity and illumination.

Often when we're chatting with others, the incubate and illuminate stages do their magic.

Yesterday I hosted a lunch meetup for members and friends of Jay Clouse's community, The Lab.

We had folks joining us from Paris, London, Madrid, Alicante, and Barcelona.

Sharing our experiences, what we're working on, and what's top of mind, I had many light bulb moments.

My reflections are:

Take time out, mix up your environment, go hang out with friends.

Trust in your creative process.

It'll nurture your brain and being's ability to process what you're mulling over and make new connections :)

If you're curious, you're welcome to learn more about the four stages of creativity here.

To taking time out and nurturing light bulb moments,

Charlotte

Communicate their method in a variety of formats (website, social media posts, guest blog posts) to: Attract, educate, and grow their audience. Build trust, credibility, and authority in their field.
